Learning to let go

Every art session brings progress for Showham, who recently arrived in Australia from Lebanon. Seeking a way to unwind and find her footing in a new country, she decided to channel her creativity into something tangible.

Under the soft glow of the Art studio’s lights in Birkdale, she carefully follows the instructor’s guidance, her hands steadying a piece of clay as she learns the “line and level,” the essential foundation of 3D art. At first, the concepts seemed foreign, but she’s discovering that the more relaxed she feels, the easier the lessons come.

For Showham, these classes are more than just an introduction to sculpture—they’re a chance to slow down, breathe, and create something beautiful out of chaos. With each session, her confidence grows, and the once-daunting block of material in front of her begins to take shape under her fingertips.
